Gerson Leiber was born November 12, 1921 in Brooklyn, NY. He and his wife, Judith Leiber, the renowned handbag designer, both died of old age hours apart on April 28, 2018 at their home in Springs, NY. They were married 72 years, having met during WWII in Budapest, Judith’s hometown, where Gerson was stationed as a U.S. Army Signal Corps sergeant. After the war Gerson Leiber studied at the Royal Academy of Art in Budapest and then at the Art Students League of NY. His work is represented in more than 50 museum collections. “The Quiet Sea” shown here is in the Private Collection of Kaseowitz Gallery. It is labeled AP (Artist Proof) and signed. Another AP from this same edition is in the collection of the Whitney Museum of American Art.
